Overall the Hash is run by a mis-management committee that is elected by the hashers every year. The committee is responsible for making sure all the items we need for a great hash (from circle toys to water and beer) is taken care of. Each run’s logistics is taken care of by the Hare. The Hare chooses the location, takes care of any permissions required for use of the location, gathers the drinks and all the hash gear and sets the run itself.
The R*N: Generally 3-4 miles. Because there is a trail that must be found and followed (along with numerous false trails) the r*n is not particularly fast. The faster runners tend to cover more distance as they are the ones getting sucked down false trails and spending time looking for the next trail mark. Slower runners tend to enjoy all that hard work by only having to follow the true trail. If the run is particularly long, we often break it up with a beer stop.
Walkers are welcome and there is a walker’s trail that can be arranged with the hare if the official trail is too long.
The trail is marked with plops of white flour or toilet paper. Small spots of flour are left behind by the Hare about 25 yards, on average, apart. When you find an intersection, normally the Hare will have multiple false trails and one true trail. Exact trail markings you can expect will be shown to you by the Hare at the start of each run during Chalk Talk.
Runs can be a Live Hare or a Dead Hare. Live Hare is where the Hare sets the trail while the pack chases. Normally they get a 6 minute head start. If they are caught, they get de-pantsed! Normally Live Hares are very fast and good runners.
Dead Hare trails are set the morning of the Hash or night before. The Hare will run along with the pack as they discover their way through it.
The CIRCLE: Once the run is complete and the circle starts, the GM steps in to run the festivities of the circle. The Hare is always the first one to enter the circle and drink. We call this a DOWN DOWN.
Songs we sing will grow over time. There is a huge list of songs hashes sing all over the world. You can find these online. Singing is completely voluntery, you may just listen and laugh of you like. Please understand that these are all just silly songs.
The GM will keep the circle going as long as there is business to conduct (or beer to drink). Circles are only as fun as every tries to make them. Don’t be shy, join in and have your say. As useless as it may be.
At the end of the circle we will announce up coming events and runs. Please pitch in to clean up. If you have had too much to drink, another hasher will help you get home safely. If need be, the Hash will pay for a cab on your behalf. DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE.
Membership
All comers are welcome. There is NOT a formal membership, as there is no formal management! The more the better.
Cloths
Regular running cloths or even old clothes are best. If there is a lot of shiggy, your clothes could be very dirty. DO NOT wear new shoes! You will deink from them after the run. Some special events you will wear red dresses or other fun get ups.
Drinks
We provide bottled water, and beer. We also have disposable cups and trash bags to clean up after ourselves.
Food
Sometimes. If there will be food it will be clearly announced for that specific hash run and put together by the Hare for that run.
Location
A new location around our community each r*n. This gets us out to see new places to r*n and helps balance out travel times for members living on one side of the city or another.
Safety
We do not have EMT or other support but will identify any runners with proper training in case of problems. We have a first aid kit for simple issues.
